Rahul Dravid’s advise to son Samit earlier than his choice in India’s U19 squad

Karnataka batter Samit Dravid was advised that his performance will determine his success more than his lineage, his childhood coach revaled. The son of former India head coach Rahul Dravid has been named in India U19 squad for the multi-format series against Australia.

Samit’s coach Karthik Jeswanth revealed that both Dravid and him had told Samit multiple times that he should not get lost in the fame that Rahul Dravid had earned and that playing well was the only way to move forward.

“Samit has grown up knowing what his father’s stature is and knows that there is going to be a lot of pressure. So that’s what Rahul and myself have been telling him, not to be bothered about any outside noise or attention. He will be judged on his own skills and what he does on the field. He has to learn to live with the attention without it affecting his batting,” Karthik told the Indian Express.

So far, Samit has been average in the Maharaja Trophy, scoring just 82 runs at a strike rate of 114 in seven matches. He hasn’t gotten a chance to bowl in the tournament yet. Dravid was picked on the eve of Mysore Warriors’ semi-final clash against Hubli Tigers. The series against Australia will feature three 50-over games and two four-day matches to be played in Puducherry and Chennai, respectively. He will be a part of both the one-day and four-day teams.
