A couple from Georgia is facing charges for child cruelty after they allegedly locked their four children in their bedrooms for long periods.
James and Cindy Spooner have both been charged with four counts of first-degree child cruelty and false imprisonment, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Fox 5 Atlanta.
Investigators carried out a search warrant at the family’s four-bedroom ranch-style home in Whitesburg, Georgia, and found four children—three girls and one boy—living in conditions that were described as inhumane.

According to the sheriff’s office, each child’s bedroom had a deadbolt lock on the outside of the door. Additionally, the outside doors and windows of the house were boarded up, seemingly to stop the children from leaving the home.
The children told investigators that they were locked in their bedrooms for long periods, sometimes for hours or even days at a time. During these periods, they were given only a bucket to use as a toilet. They also mentioned that their parents controlled when they were allowed to eat, providing food only when they chose to.
These living conditions were described as cruel and abusive, leading to the charges against the parents. The authorities believe the children were trapped in an unsafe and neglectful environment for an extended period.
This case highlights the severity of the situation and the disturbing treatment the children endured. The investigation is ongoing, and the charges against James and Cindy Spooner reflect the seriousness of their alleged actions. The legal process will determine the next steps for the parents, while the children’s well-being is being prioritized.

“It is a heartbreaking state of affairs for these harmless youngsters, and nobody must be handled like they’ve been,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned in a press release. “We pray for his or her restoration from this mentally and bodily and hope the offenders are punished harshly by the judicial system for these horrid actions.”
